A slower pace of life
The day after going to the Dhakeshwari Temple I went down to Old Dhaka to see the submerging of the statues. I had been warned about going down to old Dhaka by myself, but I figured I could at least poke my head down there. I took a CNG down to Buriganga Bridge 2 and felt like I’d entered a different world. Old Dhaka holds on to a sort of third world romance. From the bridge you get a good sense of the whole area. People bathing in the river, riding long boats across the river, old steam boats coming in. I walked along the river a ways until it started getting dark. I’m surprised I didn’t stand out more. Just interesting to watch all the goods being loaded off the boats, just a slower pace of life.
When I’m downtown in places like this I am a bit wary as to what I divulge to strangers about my life. For the first time in my life I don’t necessarily even tell them that I am from the US… usually Denmark, sometimes Sri Lanka.
